CHILD
COUNSELLING

Focuses on working towards an optimistic future, developing positive coping methods, as well as boosting self-esteem, self-confidence, & other positive states & traits in children

As a therapist specializing in child counseling, my primary focus is to provide a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment for children to express themselves and navigate their emotional well-being. I understand that children experience unique challenges and may require a different approach compared to adults. With a child-centered and developmentally appropriate approach, I aim to help children develop the necessary skills to cope with their emotions, navigate life’s challenges, and thrive.

In child counseling, building a trusting and collaborative relationship with both the child and their parents or caregivers is crucial.

I ensure that the counseling environment is warm, inviting, and child-friendly. This helps children feel at ease and encourages them to express their thoughts and feelings freely. I take the time to establish a trusting and supportive relationship with the child. This involves actively listening, validating their experiences, and demonstrating empathy and understanding. By establishing trust, children feel more comfortable sharing their thoughts and emotions

I adapt my language and therapeutic interventions to the child’s developmental level and age. I use simple, concrete terms and concepts that children can understand. This helps ensure effective communication and engagement throughout the counseling process. I may utilize various expressive arts therapies, such as drawing, painting, music, or movement, to provide additional avenues for self-expression and emotional exploration. These creative approaches can be particularly beneficial for children who may struggle to articulate their feelings verbally.

Confidentiality and privacy are essential aspects of child counseling. I explain confidentiality limits to children and their parents, emphasizing that my primary concern is their safety and well-being. If any concerns arise regarding the child’s safety or the safety of others, I follow mandated reporting procedures in accordance with ethical and legal guidelines.
