Depression

The year 2020 has brought one more sad news related to depression, as per a media spokesperson. All of a sudden everywhere people have started talking about depression. But do we really understand this? Are we accepting people around us when they are in depression? The answer is – NO.

The moment we come to know, that the other person is in depression we directly connect it with madness. Nowadays, people are educated but still, they don’t understand the term ”DEPRESSION”. It is just a mental condition that can be treated with proper guidance and care. It is not madness. And even if it is madness it can be treated.

WHO ( World Health Organization ) says that –

  • Depression is a common mental disorder. Globally, more than 264 million people of all ages suffer from depression.
  • Depression is a leading cause of disability worldwide and is a major contributor to the overall global burden of disease.
  • More women are affected by depression than men.
  • Depression can lead to suicide.
  • There are effective psychological and pharmacological treatments for moderate and severe depression. ( source- WHO site)

We as a community can do some bit, few suggestions

  • Please be gentle towards people around you always. Because you never know that with whom you are talking is going through some mental stress on their personal/professional front.
  • Always ready to listen, if someone says that he/she wants to talk or share. Listen to them.
  • Do not share your opinion or judge them. If someone shares their problem, please do not put your opinion or never judge them. Just be with them. Tell them do not worry I am with you. You are right. You are not at fault. This is the time being. This will also pass. And keep reminding to them. These few supportive words can bring some change in their lives.
  • Make people around you so comfortable, that they can call you anytime and share and discuss anything they want. Because they know that you are a person on which they can always lean on
  • In addition to the above, convince them for medical help too. It will cure them soon. Be there with them always because they trust you.
  • Never share their problem in front of anyone except the doctor or their immediate family members ( Do not gossip) .

I know I have not written anything which no one knows. But no one follows. Start doing it, especially for the young generation because they do not understand resilience. Always keep reminding them they are good, they have to think positively. I can write hundreds of pages on this but will leave everyone with the thought and promise to themselves

“BE POSITIVE, THINK POSITIVE, SPREAD POSITIVITY AROUND YOU, MAKE YOURSELF AND PEOPLE AROUND YOU RESILIENT”

It will help you to overcome any situation in life.
